Six times, five times each for the NBA All-Defensive Team and the NBA All-NBA Team, Butler has been selected for these teams. Butler, a shooting guard, has become one of the NBA’s top two-way players as his scoring has become better each year. He participated in sports at Marquette as a student. Jimmy was selected by the Chicago Bulls with the 30th overall choice in the 2011 NBA Draught. Jimmy won a gold medal for the USA Senior Men’s Basketball squad at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio.
Butler impressed Division I teams during his first year at Tyler Junior College by putting up a strong performance. He was considered a two-star recruit by 247sports in 2008 and was listed as the 127th junior college talent. Butler then accepted a scholarship offer from Marquette University. In his junior year at Marquette, he was elevated to the starting lineup due to his continuing strong play. Butler was also named to the All-Big East Honorable Mention team during his junior year. The next year, he took part in the NCAA tournament for the fifth time in a row and was named to the All-Big East Honorable Mention team twice.
