Canadian professional basketball player Kelly Tyler Olynyk plays for the NBA’s Utah Jazz. He represented the Gonzaga Bulldogs in collegiate basketball in the US, where he was named an All-American in 2013. Olynyk, who skipped his senior year, was chosen by the Dallas Mavericks with the 13th overall choice in the 2013 NBA draughts. He was then traded to the Boston Celtics. He also played in the national team of Canada. 

In particular, Olynyk’s father Ken famously dropped future Canadian basketball legend Steve Nash from the junior national team while serving as head men’s basketball coach at the University of Toronto from 1989 to 2002 and as the head coach of the Canadian junior men’s national team from 1983 to 1996. His mother Arlene was a women’s basketball official for the Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS). His mother held several positions with the Toronto Raptors between 1995 and 2004, including scorekeeper. The remainder of the family moved to Kamloops, British Columbia, when Ken accepted the position of athletic director at Thompson Rivers University in 2003. Jesse and Maya, one of Olynyk’s two sisters, played CIS basketball for the Saskatchewan Huskies. The Olynyk family hails from Ukraine.
